Mountain Biking, Cycling and All-Terrain Scootering
The Tourist Office Website Bikes and Scooters provides details of the full range of biking activities in Val d'Anniviers |
Val d'Anniviers is a magnet for mountain biking enthusiasts, and its attractions are confirmed by the annual Verbier to Grimentz Grand Raid race which is described as Europe′s toughest mountain bike marathon! There are many defined and sign posted mountain bike routes on which to test your skills whilst enjoying the scenery. The adrenalin inducing facilities include a bike park and all-terrain scooters and tricycles for a rapid descent from the cable car top stations. Details here. The cable cars also provide 1/2 price transport for you courtesy of your Anniviers Liberte pass and you can also take your bike on-board!
There are many signed bike routes, so, if you are seeking a cycling alternative to white knuckle mountain biking, then you can enjoy a much more leisurely ride along one the flatter untarmacked old cart tracks that wind along the valley sides from Grimentz or through the forests. When we go on these trips we invariably end up with numerous stops to admire the scenery, take photographs, talk to the the cows, inspect the flowers or sit by the waterfall. Mountain bikes and electrically assisted moubtian bikes (e-bikes) can be hired in Grimentz at the outdoor shop near our apartment - these are high spec. well maintained bikes. We also cycle to and from the other villages in Val d'Anniviers on the tarmacked roads which have very little traffic. In case you are concerned as to whether you will manage the hill back into Grimentz, there are a couple of hints we can share with you. The first one is that the local buses have bike racks on the back and so you can come back by bus . Your bus travel is free on your Anniviers Liberte pass* and there is a small charge for the bike. The second hint is that there is a very cycleable gradient if you chose the right route. These are just two examples of the information we would give you in our Grimentz cycle-ride leaflet based on our own routes. If you are wanting to cycle in the Rhone Valley, and there are cycle paths along the Rhone and from Sierre to nearby villages and the Pfyn-Finges nature reserve, then you might wish to take look at the details on the ValaisRoule website. Details here * This is part of the Anniviers Liberte offer from the Tourist Office for visitors staying in Grimentz. We understand this will be available in 2021 but cannot be responsible for this. |
